How it began...
I first walked through the campus without a brief in mind. What stood out wasn’t any single building, but the way the spaces connected, the rhythm of walkways, the repetition of windows, the contrast between older structures and more modern interventions. It felt less like a collection of buildings and more like a system in motion.
This project developed from that initial observation into a commissioned illustration for Imperial College London, focused on capturing the architectural identity of the campus in a way that felt both structured and accessible.
The Brief
The direction was to create a range that reflected the character of the university through its architecture, something that could sit comfortably within internal spaces while still holding a strong visual identity.
Process
As with all my work, the process began on site. I spent time walking through the campus, and photographing details. Chatting with the client and getting to know interesting bits around campus like the scaffolding on the Queen's Tower that hasn't been taken down for years, and had sort of become an 'internal joke'.
Back in the studio, those observations were simplified into a series of sketches, gradually refining the composition. The focus was on geometry, alignment, and balance, removing unnecessary detail while keeping the underlying structure intact.
The final illustrations became a compressed version of the campus experience, not a single viewpoint, but a combination of perspectives shaped into one cohesive image.
Applications
The work was designed to function across multiple formats, including Art Prints, Postcards, Greeting Cards, Tote Bags and Jigsaw Puzzles.
Commissions & Collaborations
If you’re looking to commission illustration work for a university, brand, or architectural project, I’d be happy to discuss your brief. Whether developing a single piece or a wider collection, the focus is always on creating work that feels considered, site-specific, and built to last.
