Alexandra Palace BBC Tower Art Print

Alexandra Palace BBC Tower Art Print. Matte, Fine Art and Giclee Prints.

Alexandra Palace or Ally Pally as it's fondly known is a North London favourite! It truly became ‘The People’s Palace’ in 1990 when it was made public owned, to keep it a place of escape and wonder for the people of London.

The birthplace of television.
In 1935 the Corporation leased the eastern part of the building from which the first public television transmissions were made. In 1936 it hosted trials between the EMI-Marconi and Baird television system to decide which would carry the television standard for the future.
These early transmissions were famously introduced by one of the very first presenters, Elizabeth Cowell, with the words "This is direct television from Alexandra Palace…"

This print was part of a special commission for Ally Pally's 150th Anniversary. Other prints as part of this series- the Palm Court, Ally Pally Summers and the Rose Window are also available in the shop.
