I didn’t come to Highbury through football first. It was the building. Cycling past the old stadium, it never felt like just a ground. Even now, long after matches have moved on, there’s something about the structure that still holds its place in the city. This artwork comes from that perspective... less about the noise of match day, and more about the architecture that remains.

The Art Deco design of the East Stand, with its clean lines and balanced façade, gave the stadium a presence that went beyond sport. It felt considered, deliberate, closer to civic architecture than a typical football ground. Even today, walking past the site, you can still see traces of that identity.
 
This mug draws from those details: The symmetry of the facade, the structure of the stand and a sense of permanence. It’s a small way of holding onto a stadium that meant something more than just the game.

The second mug 'For the Gunners' features the bright red stands of the modern Emirates stadium and the distinctive cannon in white. The lego block layers of seats. I love the solid graphic pattern in this design.
 
These illustrations didn’t begin digitally. It came from repeated visits, noticing how the building sits within the street, how it reveals itself gradually as you move past it.
Sketches focused on proportion, repetition, the relationship between structure and space. The final design reduces Highbury down to its most recognisable elements, keeping the composition clean and balanced much like the building itself.
