Arsenal Highbury Mug – Art Deco Stadium Architecture Gift for Gunners

Arsenal FC Heritage Ceramic Mugs. 10oz / 284ml.

I didn’t come to Highbury through football first. It was the building.

Cycling past the old stadium, it never felt like just a ground. The East Stand, the symmetry, the quiet presence of the Marble Halls,  it stood apart from everything around it. Even now, long after matches have moved on, there’s something about the structure that still holds its place in the city.

This Arsenal Highbury mug comes from that perspective... less about the noise of match day, and more about the architecture that remains.

Highbury Stadium – An Architectural Icon

Highbury isn’t just part of Arsenal’s history. It’s part of London’s architectural history.

The Art Deco design of the East Stand, with its clean lines and balanced façade, gave the stadium a presence that went beyond sport. It felt considered, deliberate, closer to civic architecture than a typical football ground. Even today, walking past the site, you can still see traces of that identity.

This mug draws from those details:

  • the symmetry of the facade
  • the structure of the stand
  • the sense of permanence

It’s a small way of holding onto a stadium that meant something more than just the game.

This illustration didn’t begin digitally. It came from repeated visits, noticing how the building sits within the street, how it reveals itself gradually as you move past it.

Sketches focused on proportion, repetition, the relationship between structure and space. The final design reduces Highbury down to its most recognisable elements, keeping the composition clean and balanced much like the building itself.

A Different Kind of Arsenal Mug

Most Arsenal mugs focus on logos, colours, or players. This one takes a different approach. It’s built around place- specifically, the architecture of Highbury making it feel quieter, more reflective, and more connected to the club’s history. For those who remember Highbury, it carries a different kind of weight. Not just what happened inside the stadium, but what the building itself represented.

A Thoughtful Gift for Arsenal Fans

This Arsenal Highbury mug works as a gift for long-time Arsenal supporters, fans who remember Highbury or lovers of football history alike. It’s especially suited to people who connect with the identity of the club beyond the present.
