Battersea Power Station notebook with criss crossing train tracks illustration

Battersea Power Station Notebook – London Architecture Sketchbook

'Perfectly Perfect bound'. Flat lay A5 notebooks featuring the Battersea Power Station in South London.

I didn’t first notice Battersea Power Station while standing in front of it. It was from the train. Somewhere between stations, the view opens up just enough to catch it at an angle you don’t really get from the street... the chimneys rising above a tangle of criss-crossing tracks, steel lines cutting across the foreground, the building sitting slightly apart from everything around it.

That view stayed with me. Not the postcard version, but the in-between one, slightly obscured, layered, and a bit rough around the edges.

This Battersea Power Station illustration comes from that moment.

The Grittier Side of Battersea

There’s a version of Battersea Power Station that feels polished now... redeveloped, lit, carefully presented. But from the train lines, you still catch something older. The textures feel heavier. The space feels more industrial. There’s a sense of the building’s past still sitting just beneath the surface. That contrast between regeneration and what came before is what makes it interesting to draw.

The illustration featured in this notebook doesn’t try to smooth that out. It leans into it.

Translating the view into Illustration.

When I started sketching, it wasn’t about capturing every detail. It was about holding onto that specific angle- the crossing lines of the tracks, the structure sitting beyond them and the balance between order and disruption.

The final design keeps that layered perspective, something slightly obstructed, but more real because of it.

A London architecture notebook for everyday use.

The flat-lay binding allows it to open fully, whether you’re sketching, writing, or just making quick notes. The interior pages (both dot grid or ruled) leave space for ideas without distraction. Over time, it becomes something personal, layered with your own thoughts, just as the original view is layered with structure and movement.

A thoughtful London gift for those drawn to the city’s edges.

This piece tends to resonate with people who notice the quieter, less curated sides of London. Not just landmarks, but the spaces between them. The views you catch in passing. For architects, designers, and anyone who finds interest in how a building sits within its surroundings, not just how it looks in isolation.
